What is Dryad?

Dryad is a non-profit data repository offering data curation and publishing services. CSU is now an institutional member, and CSU-affiliated researchers can publish their data in Dryad free of charge.

Uploading Your Data to Dryad

Dryad makes it easy for researchers to upload and share their data. 

1. Log in with your ORCID iD

   Don’t have one? You can create one straight from the Dryad login page. Because CSU is a Dryad member, you will be prompted for your CSU credentials. Once logged in, you will see the CSU logo and can start submitting your data. ORCID stands for Open Researcher and Contributor ID. 2. Upload data and documentation files
   • Dryad accepts many different types of data. For guidelines about preparing your data for submission to Dryad, see their Submission and Publication Process and Good Data Practices.
   • All data deposited with Dryad must be in its final state, and open to the public.
   • If submitting human subjects data, make sure your data is properly de-identified and follows both legal and ethical guidelines.
   • All data must be compatible with the Creative Commons Zero (CC0) license. Find out more about Creative Commons licenses here.

   You should not use Dryad if:

   • Your data is too sensitive to share publicly.
   • You cannot agree to the CC0 license for the datasets (and/or you cannot agree to the software licenses available to you from Zenodo, if publishing associated code, scripts, or software packages).
   • Your dataset publication is larger than 300GB (for datasets larger than 300GB, contact help@datadryad.org).
   • If you need to share articles or other textual documents, use our repository.

3. Data Curation and Privacy

   Dryad curates and then publishes your data. Select the Private for Peer Review check box if you want to suspend data publication until after the peer review process is complete. In all cases, the Dryad folks ensure your data is curated. If they have questions, they will be in touch.

4. Data Publication

   Dryad notifies you once your data is published and provides you with a permanent DOI (digital object identifier) you can use to cite your data. You can update and re-version your data set at any time.
