Library Instruction & Student Learning

Introductory Research & Information Literacy Skills

College-level research can be intimidating, and we can help students build confidence in their research and information literacy skills to succeed academically. Based on student research needs, we teach basic research and information literacy for courses and programs. In collaboration with lead instructors, we curate or develop instructional videos, tutorials, activities, and lesson plans.

Advanced Research Skills Instruction & Training

When your students are ready to tackle more advanced research skills or start their theses and dissertations, we’re here for them. Librarians teach students in workshops and classrooms to build high level skills, such as data literacy, literature reviews, evidence synthesis, open scholarship and copyright. Learn more about our advanced research support services.

Effective Research Assignment Design

A great research assignment inspires student learning and critical thinking. In collaboration with instructors, librarians use evidence-based best practices in information science to help design research assignments that emphasize critical thinking and promote effective research skills.

Peer Mentor Program

The Libraries’ Peer Research Mentors help fellow students in finding relevant library resources, quality information to complete course work or simply to expand their curiosity. Peer mentors help students through in-classroom support, drop-in consultations or scheduled appointments.

Textbook Affordability & Open Educational Resources

Studies suggest there is a strong link between textbook affordability and student success in the classroom. Librarians can help you start navigating your options for free, open educational resources, including how to find, create or adapt materials for your students.
