Laptop information

Below you’ll find important troubleshooting information and answers to frequently asked questions about checking out laptops from Morgan Library.

Troubleshooting

I’m having trouble logging in to a laptop (HP)
  1. While on campus, connect to the CSU-net Wi-Fi network using your CSU NetID and password.
  2. Once connected to the Wi-Fi, sign in to the computer using your CSU NetID and password.
I’m having trouble connecting to a Wi-Fi network

By default, library laptops don’t automatically connect to a Wi-Fi network.

With MacBooks, a “Verifying Certificate” box will appear — select Continue. When the login screen for the “Certificate Trust Setting” appears, the username is “Student” and there’s no password. Press Enter to connect.

Connect to Wi-Fi on campus

Connect to the CSU-net Wi-Fi using your NetID username and password. This network is more secure and generally has better performance than the CSU-visitor one. Once connected, log in to the laptop.

Connect to Wi-Fi off campus

Connect to any available Wi-Fi network you have access to, then connect to Global Protect VPN (PDF)(323kb). Once connected, log in to the laptop.

The laptop didn’t prompt me to enter a username and password (Macbook)

Return the Macbook to the Library Services Desk if you aren’t prompted for a username and password.

The laptop isn’t displaying the correct time and/or date

If the time or date isn’t displaying correctly on a Macbook

After connecting to Wi-Fi, allow 5 minutes for the system to contact the server to receive the correct time or date. If it doesn’t update, and you intend to use Respondus Lockdown Browser, report this issue to the Library Services Desk and return the laptop.

If you don’t intend to use Respondus Lockdown Browser, the laptop will still function as expected. Please report the issue to the Library Services Desk upon returning the laptop.

If the time isn’t displaying correctly on an HP

The laptop should function as expected. Please report the issue to the Library Services Desk upon returning the laptop.

Is my privacy protected when I check out a laptop?

Yes. Once you log in to a library laptop, only you will have access.

A program called Deep Freeze runs on all systems and reverts them to a baseline state upon Reboot, Shutdown, or in the event of power loss (e.g. dead battery).

We recommend logging out of all browsers and accounts (e.g. Adobe, MS Office, Teams, Zoom), then reboot the laptop prior to returning it. This ensures Deep Freeze restores the laptop’s default state and clears all personal data.

CSU Libraries can’t recover any information you may have stored on the laptop once this occurs. Please ensure you save all files to an external storage device or to a cloud storage service (e.g. OneDrive, Google Drive).
