Book Replacement Policy & Procedure

A lost book may qualify for replacement by you. If this is an option you would like to explore, please check with the Morgan Library Records Unit at the Loan/Reserve Desk for approval before taking any replacement action. The following guidelines must be followed when purchasing a replacement copy:

  • The ISBN (International Standard Book Number) and the copyright date of the purchased copy must be identical to the ISBN and copyright date of the lost copy. You will find the ISBN and copyright date listed on SAGE when you look up the item's record on the Library catalog. The Library Records Unit staff can also help you identify the correct ISBN and date.
  • Only new items can be accepted. Used copies are not accepted.
  • We prefer that you personally bring the replacement copy in to the Morgan Library Loan/Reserve Desk and ask for a Records Unit staff member who can then begin the process of acceptance. If it is not possible to come in to the Library you may mail it to us at the address below. Please include your full contact information including I.D. number:

    Morgan Library Access Services
    Attn: Records Unit, Room 161
    Colorado State University

  • If you cannot locate a copy with an identical ISBN and copyright date to purchase you may consult with a subject librarian/selector to determine if an alternative copy/item might be acceptable. Selectors' names and contact information may be found on our website at:

  • There is a $5.00 fee to cover reinstatement costs (in addition to any existing overdue recall fines and/or $5.00 billing fees).
