Laptop Check-Out Policy
Morgan Library laptops and presentation kits are available for use in the Library by current Colorado State University faculty, staff, and students. You must have a current CSU/photo ID in your possession and be in our computer database. Laptops can be checked out at the Circulation desk upon presenting your valid ID. Borrowers are financially responsible for loss, damage, or overdues.
- Items are checked out for 6 hours and may be used for up to 6 hours in the Library building; items may not be taken out of the Library.
- Items are not renewable. If you need to use a laptop or kit longer than 6 hours, bring the item and its accessories to the Loan/Reserve Desk before it becomes overdue. If other laptops or kits are available for checkout, the Desk staff can then check the laptop or kit and its accessories out to you for another 6 hours. If no other laptops or kits are available at that time, we advise checking back in a half hour
- Each laptop case includes a laptop and a power cord/mouse packet, each of which is checked out individually. Laptop accessories such as headphones can also be checked out for a 6-hour loan period. Each presentation kit contains a laptop, a projector, and a cords/mouse packet each of which is checked out individually. Presentation kit accessories such as a projector screen can also be checked out for a 6-hour loan period. All items must be returned together/at the same time. Charges will be assessed for any missing or late items.
- Late charges will be imposed if an item becomes overdue. Non-refundable overdue fines are assessed for each item overdue at $5.00 for the first hour overdue and $2.50 per hour thereafter up to a maximum of $25.00, until billed for replacement.
- Each item not returned after 24 hours from time due, or returned without all internal and external components intact will be billed at its replacement charge plus a non-refundable billing fee of $5.00. Replacement charges are: Laptops = $1,800, Projectors = $1,300.00, each accessory = $95.00. If damage occurs to any components or accessories, damage charges will be imposed as appropriate.
- A Proof-of-Return Receipt, available at check-in, is required in the event of a bill or fine question - please wait for a staff member to give you your receipt. Whether or not you opt to get a receipt, the laptop or presentation kit must be given to a Loan/Reserve Desk employee - never leave a laptop unattended on the Desk counter when returning it.
- Never leave a laptop, presentation kit, or accessories unattended-you are responsible for all items until you have returned them to a Loan/Reserve Desk employee and it is checked in. Billing charges will be assessed to you if any item is lost or stolen while still checked out to you.
- Laptops operate on electrical power only, not on battery power. Always plug the laptop into a wall outlet. The internet can be accessed from most locations in the Library; special jacks are not necessary. Laptop clocks are not accurate and should never be used to calculate laptop due time; overdue fines will not be dismissed for the reason of using laptop clock or for not having an accurate timepiece available. You may view your library record on SAGE to check the due date/time.
- No food or drinks should be in the immediate vicinity as damage fees will be assessed if any damage should occur.
The laptops and presentation kits represent a significant investment in providing University users with a technology service in addition to the Morgan Library Computer Lab and Electronic Reserve. Your respect for the equipment and the rights of other patrons will be appreciated. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
