Writers on the Plains is a program partnering Colorado State University with Front Range communities and visiting authors in a series of readings, book discussions, and writing workshops. Kathleen Norris, bestselling author of Dakota: A Spiritual Geography and other books, noted: “In an increasingly urbanized society, rural people have become increasingly invisible.” Writers on the Plains counters this trend of invisibility through writing.
By fostering high-quality writing and an awareness of literature about the Plains, Writers on the Plains aims to deepen our appreciation for our communities and to help residents communicate that appreciation to a national audience. Bringing nationally recognized visiting writers to communities and the Colorado State University campus, Writers on the Plains will bring together an audience for the literary arts in rural Colorado and will advance artistic excellence through top-notch writing instruction and publication of the best works created during the program.
