The AOL Web browser does not work with our remote access system. Users of AOL 5.0 or newer may not be able to use our databases and electronic journals with any web browser. AOL users can try to download and install Mozilla Firefox to use while connected to AOL.
If you have America Online software version 5.0 or higher installed on your PC, you may not be able to use the CSU Libraries's databases and electronic journals from off campus. If this AOL software has ever been installed on your computer, you will probably have problems, even when using another company for Internet access.
AOL's newer software overwrites important Windows files related to networking. It also cripples certain capabilities of Internet Explorer.
You will probably be unable to use Internet Explorer to reach Libraries databases on a PC with AOL 5.0 or newer installed. Properly configured, Mozilla's Firefox browser may work. Others may need to remove AOL software from their computers or reformat their hard disks and reinstall Windows to fix problems caused by the AOL software. The Libraries do not have the resources to assist users with these in-depth repairs.
We recommend that AOL users download Mozilla Firefox, an open-source Web browser which is a relatively small download. You can find more information about Firefox on Mozilla's Web site. After installing Firefox, try using our databases and electronic journals again.
