Question:
I want to find videos (or maps or sound recordings or other special formats) about my topic. How do I do that?
Answer:
You can limit your search on the Library Catalog (Sage) to one format. After an Author or Subject or Title search, click on "Limit This Search" at the top of the results screen. The following screen will have a Material Type limit option. Choose a format from that drop-down menu. For example: Author: Shakespeare, William equals 916 items. Limit to Material Type "Videos" and reduce 916 items to the 24 on video. A Word search can be pre-limited to the format you're looking for. Using the Advanced Word Search, enter your search term(s). Then choose a format from the Material Type drop-down menu. The option you choose will be applied to your Word search to limit your results to just that format. For example: Word: Colorado pre-limited to "Newspapers" gives you 81 newspapers from Colorado. The format term "videos" or "newspapers," etc. may not appear in the full display of the record. The search operation works behind the scenes and not on the words found in the public display of the record itself.
