Scope

The purpose of this guide is to highlight library resources of Colorado State University Libraries and to provide links to Internet resources for the field of Natural Resource Recreation and Tourism.

CSU Libraries subscribes to many electronic databases. Listed below are the major ones that index Natural Resource Recreation and Tourism literature.   • AGRICOLA Over 3.5 million records from over 5,000 sources in agriculture and related fields from 1970 to present. Especially useful for articles on outdoor recreation. Sample search terms: "leisure recreation", "interpretation", "parks", "visitor behavior", "outdoor recreation", "visitors".
  • CAB Abstracts International in scope. Covers over 10,000 journals plus monographs, conferences, theses, technical reports, patents & other sources from over 100 countries from 1987 to present. Useful for articles on tourism, natural areas, ecotourism, sustainable tourism, etc. Sample search terms: "nature tourism", "visitor behavior", "visitor centers", "visitor impact", etc.
  • Digital Dissertations and Theses Indexes theses and dissertations from more than 450 institutions from 1861 with full text beginning in 1997. Sample search terms: "tourism", "outdoor recreation", etc.
  • EBSCO Academic Search Premier A general multidisciplinary database. Many fulltext articles. Search "tourism", "ecotourism", etc.
  • EBSCO Business Search Premier Coves business and related fields. Good for the business aspect of tourism. Sample search terms include "tourism and parks", "tourism", "nature and recreation tourism", etc.
  • Education Index Over 449 million records from 550 sources in education, preschool through college, from 1983 to present. Useful for articles on environmental education. Sample search terms: "recreation planning", "environmental education", "experiential learning", "adventure education", "outdoor education".
  • ERIC Over 983,000 records from over 2,000 sources in education, from 1966 to present. Useful for articles on environment education. Sample search terms: "recreation planning", "environmental education", "experiential learning", "adventure education", "outdoor education".
  • PAIS International International in scope. Over 450,000 records from over 3,600 sources concerning international affairs, from 1972 to present. Includes articles, books, conference proceedings, government documents, book chapters and statistical directories. Sample search terms: "tourist trade", "ecotourism", "tourism".
  • PapersFirst Over 2.3 million records from papers presented at conferences, workshops, etc. from 1993 to present. Sample search terms: "tourism", "outdoor recreation", etc.
  • Proceedings First Over 74,000 records from every congress, symposium, conference, exposition, workshop, and meeting received at the British Library from 1993 to present. Sample search terms: "tourism", etc.
  • Prospector Prospector is a unified catalog of 16 academic, public, and special libraries in Colorado and Wyoming. With a single search you can identify and request materials and have them delivered to the CSU Library within 3-4 days.
  • PsychInfo Covers the professional and academic literature in psychology and related fields from 1887 to present. Useful for articles on visitor behavior. Sample search terms: "environmental attitudes", "recreation areas", "consumer behavior".
  • Science Direct - ScienceDirect offers more than a quarter of the world's scientific, medical and technical information online; over 2,000 peer-reviewed journals, hundreds of book series, handbooks and reference works, back to volume one, issue one .
  • Social Sciences Index Over 600,000 records from over 550 English language periodicals from 1983 to present. Sample search terms: "national parks and resources", "tourist trade".
  • Sociological Abstracts Over 504,000 records in sociology and related fields from 1963 to present. Sample search terms: "leisure", "recreation".
  • SportDiscus Covers literature on sports and recreation from 1949 to present. Sample search terms: "wilderness", "national parks", "tourism".
  • Web of Science The online version of Science Citation Index, Social Science and Humanities Citation Index, and Arts and Humanities Citation Index. Indexes the most cited 10% of the world's journal titles.
  • WorldCat An international bibliographic database which is excellent for verifying bibliographic information on books and serial titles. Useful options include the ability to see a list of the libraries which own a particular title and the ability to enter an interlibrary loan request for an item while in the database.
