Electronic Databases

CSU Libraries subscribes to many electronic databases. Listed below are the major ones which index Food Science, Human Nutrition and Hospitality literature. To use these databases, you must use a computer on the CSU campus, connect via your CSU computer account, or qualify for remote access as specified on the Distance Users  webpage. 
  • AGRICOLA
    Indexes journal articles, monographs, proceedings, theses, patents, translations, audiovisual materials, computer software, and technical reports pertaining to all aspects of agriculture, including human food and nutrition.. Primarily in English but about one-third of the citations are in another language.
  • Biological Abstracts
    ndexes journal articles in the fields of agriculture, biochemistry, biomedicine, biotechnology, botany, ecology, microbiology, pharmacology, and zoology. Coverage is international. Approximately 75% of the records include abstracts.
  • CAB Abstracts 
    Comprehensive index covering over 10,000 journals plus monographs, conferences, theses, technical reports, patents & other sources from over 100 countries on agriculture, food, and related fields. Most records have English abstracts. 
  • CARDS (Computer Access to Research on Dietary Supplements
    Free on the Internet, CARDS is a database of federally funded research projects pertaining to dietary supplements. Currently, IT contains projects funded by the Institutes and Centers (ICs) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) beginning with fiscal year 1999.
  • Clinical Trials
    Free on the Internet, ClinicalTrials.gov provides regularly updated information about federally and privately supported clinical research in human volunteers. Information is given about a trial's purpose, who may participate, locations, and phone numbers for more details.
  • Digital Dissertations and Theses
    - Indexes theses and dissertations from more than 450 institutions from 1861 with full text beginning in 1997.
  • EBSCO Academic Search Premier
    A multidisciplinary database with many fulltext articles.  For scholarly research articles, limit search to "Scholarly 'Peer-Reviewed' Journals".
  • EBSCO Business Source Premier
    Good source for hospitality and food industry articles.  Many fulltext articles.
  • FSTA (Food Science and Technology Abstracts)
    FSTA is a bibliographic database providing worldwide coverage of all scientific and technological aspects of the processing and manufacturing of human food products.
  • IBIDS
    Free on the Internet, IBIDS is produced by the Office of Dietary Supplements  to help consumers, health care providers, educators, and researchers find credible, scientific information on a variety of dietary supplements including vitamins, minerals and botanicals.

  • ScienceDirect -  Searchable database of Elsevier journal titles with full-text back to 1995, including all Cell Press titles.  Academic Press titles are available full-text back to 1993.  Earlier years of various journal titles are also available full-text.
  • SciFinderScholar
    SciFinder Scholar is an online database that provides electronic access to Chemical Abstracts 1907-present and is the premier database for chemists. In addition to chemists, SciFinder will be useful to researchers in most scientific disciplines, including agriculture, biology, engineering, food science, geological sciences, and medical sciences.     The online version of Science Citation Index, Social Science and Humanities Citation Index, and Arts and Humanities Citation Index.  Indexes the most cited 10% of the world's journal titles.  
  • WorldCat
    World Cat is an international bibliographic database which is excellent for verifying information on books and serial titles. Two very useful options in this database include the ability to see a list of the libraries which own a particular title and to enter an interlibrary loan request for an item without exiting the database.
