Electronic Databases for Health and Exercise Science

CSU libraries subscribes to many electronic databases. listed below are the major ones that index health and exercise science literature. To use these databases, you must use a computer on the CSU campus, connect via your CSU computer account, or quality for remote access as specified on the Distance User's Web Page.

  • Biological Abstracts - Indexes journal articles in the fields of agriculture, biochemistry, biomedicine, biotechnology, botany, ecology, microbiology, pharmacology, and zoology. Coverage is international. Approximately 75% of the records include abstracts.
  • CAB Abstracts - Comprehensive index covering over 10,000 journals plus monographs, conferences, theses, technical reports, patents & other sources from over 100 countries. Most records have English abstracts.
  • Digital Dissertations and Theses - Indexes theses and dissertations from more than 450 institutions from 1861 with full text beginning in 1997.
  • EBSCO Academic Search Premier - An interdisciplinary database with many fulltext articles. For scholarly articles limit search to "Scholarly 'Peer-Reviewed' Journals".
  • ERIC - Education research documents and articles.
  • MEDLINE (Ovid) - Indexes articles in all areas of medicine. Premier source for bibliographic and abstract coverage of biomedical literature. More than 8.7 million records.
  • MEDLINE (OCLC) - Same content as MEDLINE (Ovid) but a different search interface.
  • Prospector - Prospector is a unified catalog of twenty-three academic, public and special libraries in Colorado and Wyoming. Through Prospector you have access to over 200 million books, journals, DVDs, CDs, videos and other materials held in these libraries. With a single search you can identify and borrow materials from the collections and have them delivered to your local library. 
  • PsychInfo - The premier psychological research database. Indexes articles on the psychology of sport and exercise.
  • PubMed - Free public version of Medline.
  • ScienceDirect - Database from Elsevier that includes approximately 2000 full-text journals in fields of science.
  • Sociological Abstracts - Indexes articles in sociology of sport as well as all other aspects of sociology.
  • SportDiscus - Covers literature on sports and recreation from 1949 to present
  • Web of Science - The online version of Science Citation Index, Social Science and Humanities Index, and Arts and Humanities Citation Index. Indexed the most cited 10% of the world's journal titles.
  • WorldCat - An international bibliographic database that is excellent for verifying information on books and serial titles. Two very useful options include the ability to see a list of the libraries which own a particular title and the ability to enter an interlibrary loan request for an item without exiting the database.

Current (unbound) issues are located in the journal room, 2nd floor, arranged by LC call number. Bound volumes are located either in Morgan Basement Moveable Shelves, in Storage, or, in the case of annual serials, in Morgan Stacks.
