Summary

"Jean Gilkyson has run out of options. She must run away from her latest abusive boyfriend and keep her daughter, Griff out of harm's way. The only place she can go to is the home Einar Gilkyson, her father-in-law, and the man who blames her for his son's death. Einar lives with his best friend, a black, disabled cowboy named Mitch. Mitch and Griff play a central role in healing the chasm that separates Jean and Einar. But this reconciliation comes at a great cost." (Paradise Valley Community College Book Club)

Locate Citations and Full Text Articles via the Databases Page (CSU affiliates)

Note: The number of entries in the listed indexes/databases is from January 2007. Be careful when doing searches because there is another book with the same title about John F. Kennedy and it has been reviewed quite often. These can be found via the "Research Databases" page.

  • Book Review Index Plus has 32 entries for the book and 3 entries for the audio version.
  • Academic Search Premier has 6 entries. (Add Spragg to the search.)
  • Ethnic News Watch has 2 entries (one in Spanish) about the movie version.
  • LexisNexis Academic has 14+ entries combining book and movie reviews. Find via Step 1 Arts & Sport News, step 2 Book, movie, music & play reviews, (etc.); search unfinished life and Spragg ; there may be relevant titles with just unfinished life, but that picks up the other book as well.
  • ArticleFirst has 8 entries combining the book and movie; search "unfinished life" not Kennedy. Use quotation marks around the title or many irrelevant entries display.
  • Humanities International Index has 6 entries. (Add Spragg to the search.)
  • Book Review Digest has 2+ entries (intermixed with other book; however, narrowing the search eliminates relevant reviews.)

Identify Books in SAGE (CSU) or OWL (FCPL) online Library Catalogs
