The following online resources assist in researching Congress and its legislation.

  • Years of the Congresses  (US Senate)
Very useful for finding numbers of Congress in association with years and session dates, from 1789 onward.
  • Source Book  (Law Librarians' Society of Washington DC)
Three of the publications found here are especially helpful:

Sessions of Congress with Corresponding Debate Record Volume Numbers.  A detailed listing of Congressional session dates from 1789 through 2003.
Table of Congressional Publication Volumes and Presidential Issuances.  A good brief listing with dates, 1789-2003.
  • US Congressional Bibliographies  (North Carolina State University)
A compilation of Congressional committee meetings and the resulting publications, published and unpublished, for the Senate from 1983 to the present and the House from 1985 to the present.
  • Google Books
Useful for finding citations to older Congressional publications, sometimes including full text.
  • Louis  (Sunlight Foundation)
Provides full text of Congressional publications from 2001 to the present.
