The entrance is on the first floor. This is where the Information Desk is located. The Information Desk staff will be happy to help with questions regarding reseach and use of the library. The Loan Desk, where books and other materials can be checked out, is located on this floor as well. Construction management books with an engineering and technology emphasis are located in the TH call number area, which is on the lower level (basement), west wing (toward Lory Student Center). To get there, go down the stairs in front of the Information Desk. At the bottom of the stairs turn left, then turn left again. Construction management books with a business aspect can be found in the HD 9715 call number area, which is on the second flood, west wing. To get to these materials, go up the stairs in front of the Information Desk. At the top of the stairs turn left. Books and government documents can be loaned to undergraduate students for four weeks and to graduate students for six months.
Bound periodicals (those more than two years old) can be loaned for two days. Most materials can also be renewed. Current periodicals (published within the last two years) are located on the second floor, west wing, in the Current Periodicals Room. These issues cannot leave the library. To find out if the library has a particular periodical title, and to see what issues of that title are owned here, check in the Colorado State Libraries catalog, called SAGE. Periodicals older than two years are located on the lower level (basement). They are shelved in the south wing, which is toward the Eddy Building.
The Morgan Library Computer Lab is located north of the Information Desk. This is where you can search the catalog for this library (SAGE), databases which reference articles in journals, magazines, conference proceedings and other sources, plus catalogs of other libraries. In addition, we offer a service called Uncover which allows searching of title keywords and tables of contents in journal articles. Articles from journals not held at Colorado State can also be ordered through Interlibrary Loan.
If it turns out that a book, periodical article or other kind of material you need is not owned by this library you can still obtain it by making a request through Inter-Library Loan. This service is free for all materials, except periodical articles over fifty pages. Inter-Library Loan requests should be made electronically on the SAGE system.
Behind the Information Desk (mentioned above) is the Reference area. Here you will find handbooks, encyclopedias, dictionaries, periodical indexes and statistical sources for construction management and engineering.
The construction management books and periodicals were heavily affected by a flash flood which struck the basement of Morgan Library on the evening of July 28, 1997. Bound journals in all subject areas (from the period 1960-1994) and most of the circulating books in engineering were in the basement at the time and were damaged. Of the approximately 400,000 volumes which were damaged, over 100,000 have been replaced and are available on the shelves. Salvage and replacement of the rest continues but it will probably take several years to complete. In the interim Colorado State University students, faculty and staff can obtain any article, book or other type of material damaged in the flood through Interlibrary Loan. Certain databases offer electronic links to the full text of journal articles. Also, check the Journals page on the Libraries Web site for links to online full text journals.
