- Bibliography of Genetic Variations within Natural Populations - searchable database of 60,000 citations dealing with genetic variation. Focuses on fish species but includes mammals, amphibians, microbes, and plants.
- Biology Browser - search engine by Thomson/Biosis that focuses on life science web resources. Allows users to browse by organism, topic or region and includes a searchable organism index. Excellent gateway for finding out about upcoming conferences in the life sciences.
- Biology Project - interactive tutorials geared for undergraduate biology education.
- BIOSCI/bionet - biological sciences USENET newsgroups and parallel e-mail lists.
- eNature - online field guides for North American animals and plants hosted by the National Wildlife Federation. Use the advanced search option.
- E-PRINT Network: Biology and Medicine - searchable gateway to preprint servers maintained by the U.S. Department of Energy.
- Evolution Research News - links to recent news sources and websites dealing with evolution. Also maintains an archive of postings.
- Human Genome Project Information - provides information about the U.S. and worldwide Human Genome Project.
- International Organization of Biological Field Stations (IOBFS) - lists registered field stations from around the world, currently includes over 200 field stations.
- Invasive Species Specialist Group - a searchable database of the world's invasive species, hosted by a division of the World Conservation Union. Entries include natural history and invasive strategy.
- IUCN Red List of Threatened Species - authoritative list of the global conservation status of taxa. The list is maintained and updated by the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources.
- National Biological Information Infrastructure (NBII)- a broad, collaborative program to provide increased access to data and information on the nation's biological resources.
- Online Biology Book - designed to accompany a freshmen biology course. Entries cover introductory material ranging from circulatory system to meiosis and paleobiology. The entries are encyclopedic and have excellent illustrations.
Taxonomic and Phylogenetic Databases
- Integrated Taxonomic Information System (ITIS) - authoritative information on taxonomy of plants, animals, microbes, and fungi. Includes species from around the world. Database can be searched by common name, scientific name, or taxonomic serial number.
- NCBI Taxonomy Browser - taxonomic information for archaea, bacteria, eukaryotes, and viruses. Links to resources with life histories and genomic information.
- Tree of Life Web Project - provides phylogenetic information about species including plants, insects, animals, and fungi.
