Articles - how to find, where to start, and some tips
Articles are available both in print and in the Libraries’ databases.
- Databases
Are available at http://lib.colostate.edu/databases. They are listed alphabetically and by subject.
To access databases from off-campus, you need to set up a library PIN. This is quite easy to do. Go to https://catalog.library.colostate.edu/patroninfo and fill out the form. If you have done this in the past and can't remember your PIN or have ANY problems, contact the loan/reserve desk at 491-1842. This PIN form will automatically appear whenever you try to access the databases from off-campus.
- Where to Start
For this class, I suggest you use the following two databases to find articles. These databases index such publications as the Wall Street Journal and the Economist.
- Business Source Premier - Business articles from a variety of sources. Many articles are full-text.
- Wall Street Journal - Full-text of WSJ articles.
- Finding an Article
The full-text of an article may not be in a database that you are searching. Some databases only indexed articles. Don't panic. You can still find the article. Here's how:
When you see a FindIt icon next to the article you want, click on it. A window will open and let you know if the article is available electronically through any of the Libraries' other databases. If not, it also lets you know if we have it in print in the library. If it is not available electronically, you can always request it through interlibrary loan. You have to set up an account (not the same as your library PIN). NOTE: If the library has the item in print, ILL will also scan the article and mail you a link to an electronic version. Usually, ILL is able to get articles to you within 24 hours.

- If you have a citation
Go to our citation linker at http://lib.colostate.edu/sfx/ejournals/ and enter in the informatioin. You need to enter a journal or magazine title at the very least. It is best if you have the article title, the journal or magazine it appeared in, and a date. The citation linker will look in the same manner as the FindIt icon searches and results will be the same format.
- Citing an article or book or online database in your assignment
It is important to get familiar with style guides and how to properly cite an article, book, online database, or other source of information to avoid plagiarism. Style guides are available in the library’s reference area. Use the same guide for all citations in a report, article, or assignment and state which one you used.
Samples of citation styles are also available at http://lib.colostate.edu/research/style/
