Welcome to the CSU Libraries Public Wiki
The CSU Libraries Public Wiki hosts working space for staff at the CSU Libraries to use when collaborating with persons outside the CSU Libraries. It is intended to be useful for organizing, collaborating, and presenting information important to the group. See policy and usage guidelines for more information.
This is the sandbox. Use it as a place to play around and experiment with wiki markup syntax.
What is a wiki?
A wiki <wee-kee> or <wick-ey> is a type of web site that allows users to add and edit content easily and is especially suited for collaborative writing. By its very nature, a wiki is a work in progress. Users can stay abreast of changes to critical wiki pages by enabling the "watch" function. Any time the page is changed, the user will receive an email message alerting the user to the changes.
Potential uses for a Wiki include:
- Organizational information - charge, membership, calendar
- Communications information - formal communications of group, links to listservs
- Common files - forms, templates, documents
- Group documentation - procedures, field guides, definitions, decision documents
A few tips to get you started with the wiki:
Persons outside CSU Libraries must be invited by a CSU Libraries staff to participate in the wiki. An account with username/password will be set up by the CSU Libraries staff and sent to others in the working group. Users are required to login to edit and add content to the CSU Libraries Public Wiki.
- Please login. An account will give you the following privileges:
- Reading
- Editing
- Moving
- Uploading
- Rollback
- Most information in a wiki is found using the search box. Simply type in a keyword and click on the Search button. Or, drill down through the hierarchy by department, committee or task force.
- Wikis operate under the assumption of 'shared ownership'. Content placed on a wiki no longer belongs to the individual who wrote it, but to the group. Users should expect their contributions to be edited by others. The ability to rollback to an earlier version provides 'soft security' to retrieve earlier content if necessary. See Behavioral Expectations for more about editing wiki content.
- For help starting a new wiki page, see http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Help:Editor .
- Namespaces can be created upon request. For more information on namespaces, see http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Namespaces
Consult the User's Guide for information on using the wiki software.
