Earth Vector

VENDOR
1. Company or other source from which items are purchased.
2. Company that operates and makes available online computer retrieval systems.
VENDOR TITLE NUMBER
Number designated by VENDOR for each individual SERIAL title purchased by the LIBRARIES.
VERIFICATION
Establishment of the correct bibliographic information such as author, title, publisher, date of publication, price and series, using an authoritative source such as OCLC, NUC (NATIONAL UNION CATALOG), NST (NEW SERIAL TITLES), CBI (CUMULATIVE BOOK INDEX), or other indexes. Bibliographic verification is also done for article citations in the many indexes and databases.
VERSO
1. Reverse side of the title page which usually includes the copyright of date of publication.
2. Any left-hand page of an open book. Usually used in the phrase "t.p. verso" to mean the page behind the title page, where additional publication information is most often found.

Veterinary Medical Center Library (VTHBL)
Small clinical veterinary medicine branch library located in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital on West Drake. It serves the Department of Clinical Sciences, Veterinary Teaching Hospital staff, and third and fourth year veterinary students. Library is part of the REFERENCE SERVICES DEPARTMENT of the CSU Libraries. Also known as KINGMAN LIBRARY.

VIETNAM WAR LITERATURE COLLECTION
Created in 1975, the Vietnam War Literature Collection contains imaginative accounts of Americans fighting in Vietnam. Included are fiction, plays, poetry, artists' sketches and miscellaneous works. Located in UNIVERSITY ARCHIVES. Holdings now amount to some four thousand items.

VIRTUAL REFERENCE
Computer-mediated reference service that can include a range of activities from email reference to online web forms to live chat. The number of libraries offering virtual reference services has increased dramatically in the last five years and this term now primarily refers to library staffs providing reference assistance in real time over the Web using chat software.
VIRTUAL PRIVATE NETWORK (VPN)
VPN is a network that is constructed by using public wires to connect nodes. For example, there are a number of systems that enable you to create NETWORKS using the INTERNET as the medium for transporting DATA. These systems use encryption and other security mechanisms to ensure that only authorized users can access the NETWORK and that the DATA cannot be intercepted.

VOLUME
1. A collection of written or printed sheets bound together; a book.
2. One of the books of a work printed and bound in more than one book.
3. A series of issues of a periodical, usually covering one calendar year.
4. A unit of written material assembled together and cataloged in a library.
VPN
Short for VIRTUAL PRIVATE NETWORK.
