LABEL TYPE
Indicates label format for printed label for each PERIODICAL title.
LAKE STREET
Location for REMOTE STORAGE, STORAGE.
LAKE STREET DEPOSITORY

LAMAR
Faculty, staff, and graduate student computer accounts reside on this machine at CSU.  Libraries employees may obtain a Lamar account by completing an application form available in the FRONT OFFICE.
LAN
Local Area Network. The cabling, hardware and software which connects personal computers and printers.
LAPSE
Issues of a SERIAL are no longer being received; requires claiming with VENDOR/publisher to reestablish receipt.
LAPTOP
A small, portable computer -- small enough that it can sit on your lap. Laptop computers are more frequently called notebook computers.
LAPTOP COMPUTER CHECK-OUT
Morgan Library's laptops are available for use in the Library by current Colorado State University faculty, staff, and students.

LARS
Automated Binding Preparation System.  Used to produce bind slips.
LAW/TAX COLLECTION
Noncirculating collection of legal and tax materials located in Morgan Library, 1st floor, west wing.  Included in the Law/Tax Collection are sources for judicial opinion, statutory law, and reporting services dealing with Federal and Colorado taxation.
LBC
Libraries Budget Committee.  Recommends one-time expenditures to the DEAN.  Members are the ASSISTANT DEANS, chair of LFC, and the DIRECTOR OF FISCAL SERVICES.

LC

LC COPY
Cataloging information issued by the LIBRARY OF CONGRESS showing how they cataloged a book or SERIAL. Available on-line from RLIN and OCLC, and in book form in the NATIONAL UNION CATALOG.

LCCN

LEA
See LIBRARIES EMPLOYEE ASSOCIATION.
LEAF
Any of the sheets of paper bound in a book, etc., each side which consists of a page.  The original sheet or half sheet of paper is folded to form part of a book, pamphlet, journal, etc.; each leaf consists of two pages, one on each side, either or both of which may be blank.  Individual sheet if a book is made up of two pages, front and back.
LEAVE REQUEST FORM
Teal leave request form for professional leave, obtained from the FRONT OFFICE and submitted in duplicate to one's immediate supervisor.
LEAVE WITHOUT PAY
To take Leave Without Pay means taking time off from one's (STATE CLASSIFIED) job without pay.  No type of leave shall be earned during periods of leave without pay (i.e. Leave Without Pay affects sick and annual leave accruals).  All accrued leave does not have to be exhausted in order to take Leave Without Pay.
LENDING SERVICE
ACCESS SERVICES services, including reserve, are provided with a minimal staff; other library services are not provided when the Libraries are open on this basis.
LEXIS-NEXIS
DATABASE VENDOR specializing in news, business, government and legal information in full-text format.

Earth Access to Lexis-Nexis is available through the CSU Libraries Databases.

LFC
See LIBRARIES FACULTY COUNCIL.
LIBRARIAN
One who has earned the master’s degree in library science and is working as a professional librarian.
LIBRARIES
Another name for COLORADO STATE UNIVERSITY LIBRARIES.  See also CSUL.
LIBRARIES ADMINISTRATION
See FRONT OFFICE.  Libraries Administration Office, which includes the administrative assistants to the DEAN, the ASSISTANT DEANS, DEVELOPMENT SERVICES, FISCAL SERVICES, and LIBRARIES PERSONNEL.
LIBRARIES APPEALS BOARD
Body to which patrons may appeal fines and replacement charges. Board members are from the Libraries staff and the CSU student body.
LIBRARIES CLASSIFIED COUNCIL (LCC)
A group comprised of STATE CLASSIFIED personnel of the Libraries which meets regularly to consider problems or ideas in PERSONNEL or other concerns.

LIBRARIES EMPLOYEE ASSOCIATION (LEA)
Organization which provides services and activities of a social nature for the staff, such as maintenance of the staff lounge, sending of sympathy cards and flowers, and planning of parties.  Membership is open to any staff member (present or retired).
LIBRARIES FACULTY COUNCIL - (LFC)
A deliberative and advisory group consisting of all Library faculty members which meets regularly to consider problems and innovations in the Libraries.  The group has no power to act, only to recommend to the DEAN.

LIBRARIES PERSONNEL
Responsible for administering the full range of personnel services and functions for faculty, classified and student staff categories; for implementing and monitoring personnel policies and practices for students and staff; for ensuring that the Libraries is in compliance with all relevant university, state, and federal regulations and requirements as they pertain to students and CLASSIFIED STAFF; and for developing, implementing and monitoring staff development/training activities for faculty and CLASSIFIED STAFF.

LIBRARY BINDING INSTITUTE
A trade organization that sets standards for library binding.
LIBRARY CONNECTION
The Libraries' newsletter to communicate new developments and events to faculty and graduate students; it is published during the fall and spring semesters.  It is cataloged at Z732 C63 C62.
LIBRARY FINES
The date your library materials are due is stamped in each item as you check them out. For most library items, CSUL has a no-fines policy for short-term overdues.

Tutorials designed by Library staff for library users include instruction on, database searching, research techniques and Library services.

Information sheet outlining the Libraries' service hours, arrangement and locations, prepared as a handout to help patrons use the library. Supplies are kept at the REFERENCE DESK and other SERVICE POINTS.

LIBRARY OF CONGRESS (LC)
Defacto National Library of the United States. Although its first function is to serve the informational needs of Congress, an important function is providing cataloging information to libraries.

LIBRARY OF CONGRESS CARD NUMBER
A title specific number which is included in the bibliographic record and the holdings record. Can be used as a search key to access records.
LIBRARY OF CONGRESS CLASSIFICATION
System of classification developed by the Federal Government for its publication. It has a notation of letters and figures that allows for expansion. CSU Libraries uses this classification system.

LIBRARY TECHNICIAN I
Position in the STATE CLASSIFIED personnel system characterized by the use of the full range of clerical skills and abilities combined with library work process and procedures.  This class describes a fully-operational library technician.
LIBRARY TECHNICIAN II
Position in the STATE CLASSIFIED personnel system involving supervision of classified staff positions engaged in paraprofessional library activities.  This class describes the second-level library technician.
LIBRARY TECHNICIAN III
Position in the STATE CLASSIFIED personnel system representing the highest level non-professional class in library activities. Library Technician III's usually serve as assistants to professional librarians and are responsible for planning, developing, and implementing procedures, methods, and systems to effect improvements in efficient operation.
LIBRARY TECHNOLOGY SERVICES (LTS)
The services unit in the Libraries reporting to the ASSISTANT DEAN for Administrative Services that is responsible for technology support of all computers and computer applications in the Libraries.

LICENSE AGREEMENT
Signed document between VENDOR/publisher and CSU defining use of product, usually online resources.
LINUX
(pronounced lee-nucks or lih-nucks) A free operating system, developed by Linus Torvalds, which runs on a number of hardware platforms including PCs and Macintoshes.
LIMITED RETENTION
Serial issues kept for a designated amount of time and then discarded; are not bound.

LIMITED SERVICE
REFERENCE SERVICES and circulation services are provided with minimal staffing, from 8:00 a.m-5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday, during Intersession schedule.
LINEAR FEET
Measurement of the size of library holdings.  General Library holdings usually average 8 to 10 volumes per linear foot.
LINK SYSTEM
A video networking teaching enhancement that enables instructors to broadcast their computer screen contents to each student workstation. The Link System is installed in the Electronic Information Labs #1 and #2.
LITERATURE SEARCH
Systematic search, utilizing various indexes, for material bearing on a specific problem or subject, often annotated or including abstracts.
LOAN & RESERVE
ACCESS SERVICES desk where library materials are checked out and returned. Located on the First Floor of MORGAN LIBRARY. See also RESERVE DESK.

LOCATION CODES
Word or abbreviation beneath or beside the call number which is used on spines of books that are shelved in special places; examples are ARCHIVE, REF, VET, ATMOS.  All location symbols are listed on the LIBRARY LOCATOR.

LONG-TERM DISABILITY (LTD)
Available to STATE CLASSIFIED employees on a voluntary basis and available to general faculty as part of their cafeteria benefit package.  Benefits are payable for disabilities occurring due to accident or sickness either on or off the job.  The amount of LTD is 60% of earnings.
LOOSELEAF
Type of SERIAL which is kept up-to-date by the insertion and removal of pages, kept in ring binders or post binders which facilitate removal and replacement of individual pages and/or sections.
LOWER LEVEL
Basement level of MORGAN LIBRARY.
LSC
Lory Student Center. Occasionally used for meetings of library employees.
LTD
See LONG-TERM DISABILITY.
LTS
