pencil and paper CO150 Library Guide

Success Strategies

1. Encourage your students to:

  • Have you students prepare themselves for the library visit by visiting our "Get Started" page.
  • Do the CO150 Workbook online. The workbook consists of five short tutorials and an automatically graded quiz. It can be used as a pre-test or post-test. Your students' results can be emailed directly to you if you let Amy Hoseth know you'd like to be added to the email list. This is a relatively new instructional tool, so any feedback you have would be welcome.
  • Take advantage of their time in the library by listening, asking questions, and actively researching when time is provided.
  • Start their research early
  • Talk to librarians early and often
  • Use the instruction resources found on this page made just for them: COCC150 Library Guide for Students

2. Make copies of the handout for students who missed the class, or point them to this link: http://lib.colostate.edu/instruction/co150/fall06_final.doc

3. Contact your librarian prior to the session to discuss your assignment and expectations of the time in the library. If you have particular examples or areas of emphasis you would like the librarian to demonstrate, please pass this information along in good time before the session. Do not assume that you will get the same presentation you had the last time unless you have the same librarian. We strive for consistent delivery of the basic information your students need, but we all have our own style and areas of emphasis in our presentations.

4. Attend the library session with your students. Your presence makes a difference! (If for some reason you can not attend the library session, you need to let the librarian know ahead of time.)

5. Provide us with feedback so we can improve the sessions. There are several ways you can do that:

  • Please feel free to talk directly to your librarian, or share your comments, compliments or concerns with Amy Hoseth (491-4326).
  • Complete the CO150 Instructor Survey to let us know how things went.
