COMMENT RECEIVED 05-28-2008
What on EARTH made you decide to stop accepting student IDs to print and cause us to have to use special print cards instead? That's decidedly backward. It's A LOT less convenient, and even though you give us the option of recycling the cards, it creates waste. And how much of our student fees went to putting up those card machines (and the bill changer since the machines only accept $1s)?
Perhaps you did this to make printing available for non-students. But in that case, those of us who have IDs should still be able to use them. Over all, I have to say this was a pretty dumb idea.
RESPONSE:
The decision to change the copy cards in the library was made by CopyRite, the campus enterprise which manages all printing and photocopying services in the library. The change was needed due to problems with the encoding on the magnetic strip prevented new student IDs from working with the print station and photocopier card readers.
If you have funds remaining on your student ID you can get them transferred to one of the new CopyRite cards at the ID Office in the Lory Student Center.
No student technology fees were used to implement the new copy card system. CopyRite is a self-sustaining campus enterprise. The card vending machines and the bill changer are the same equipment that was in use under the old card system. The card vending machines can be used to recharge existing copy cards and after the initial purchase ($1), cards can be recharged using $1, $5, or $10 denominations.
