COMMENT RECEIVED 10-25-2007:
The LIBRARY temperature is always extremely COLD. The air condition is always turned up too high, even during the beginning of cold weather...like this month.
Is there anyway you can fix the thermostat. I am not the only one who thinks this. I've talked and asked people (~10 people) regarding this and the first point they brought up was how COLD the library always is.
I was wondering if there is anyway the library can purchase few MICROWAVES and put it next to the vending machines downstairs at the basement. (JUST FOR BEVERAGE USE... (Especially HELPFUL and CRITICAL during the winter and exam period)
I know library should be a no food area but I really think that having a microwave would enable us to at least warm up our coffee or heat up water for tea etc. The coffee shop is good but it can get expensive if we keep buying hot water from there.

RESPONSE:
Thanks for your suggestions about the library temperature and public microwave ovens. Temperature control varies throughout the building.
With the recent change in outside temperature we are also getting comments that the library is too warm for individuals. Maintaining a consistent temperature in the building during the spring and fall is challenging with the outside temperature fluctuating 50 degrees or more.
With lower outdoor temperatures, Facilities Management will be adjusting the indoor air. Thanks for your patience as we move into the colder seasons. If you find one area to be cold, you might experiment by sitting in a different place. For example, some areas are cold due to proximity to the front entrance, so avoiding those areas might be helpful.
The Morgan Library has very limited facilities for food preparation and a small cleaning staff. The Coffee Cart, which is managed by the Student Center, is unable to make coffee in the Library because of the lack of access to kitchen facilities. I have contacted the Lory Student Center, and I have learned that they provide several microwave ovens for student use. With hygienic food preparation areas and a dedicated cleaning staff, the Student Center is the most appropriate area on campus for public microwave ovens.
