The International Poster Collection
Primary Research Made Possible
Since 1979, Colorado State University's highly regarded Art Department has organized and hosted the biennial Colorado International Invitational Poster Exhibition (CIIPE). The CIIPE is the only international poster exhibition of its kind in the United States and one of only five known such exhibitions in the world. The CIIPE program includes a main exhibition, satellite shows, symposia and educational programs designed for the University and the secondary school system. CSU Libraries has housed the art posters from the exhibition since 1991 and holds a significant complemenraty collection of posters from world-renowned art collector John Kluge.
The Libraries' vision for this project is to maximize its full import by creating an innovative educational Web site. Building upon the Libraries' existingInternational Poster Collection Web site, this educational site will contribute to the University's outreach mission and further develop collaborative relationships with K-12 partners.
To complete this project, the Libraries must raise $225,000 to fund the following objectives:
- Digitize the entire collection
- Develop the Web database
- Create an educator-interface
- Preserve the physical collection
- Contact poster artists for information to incorporate into the database
