Brian Werner is currently Public Information Officer for the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District in Berthoud. A Colorado native, Brian was born in Colorado Springs. He graduated from the University of Northern Colorado with a degree in history, and he received an M.A. in history from Colorado State University in 1981. At CSU Brian assistant taught Colorado and western American history and he learned firsthand the significant role water development played in the settling the American West. At Northern Water Brian has continued his academic training with additional research in Colorado’s unique water delivery systems, related infrastructure and the people who made them happen. He has written extensively and given hundreds of presentations on the role of water in the settlement and development of the northern Front Range. Brian has been a contributing author and editor to numerous historical publications, including History of Larimer County, Fort Collins’ First Water Works, Citizen’s Guide to Colorado’s Environmental Era and Above the Fruited Plain: Baseball in the Rocky Mountain West.
Dan Tyler is an Emeritus Professor of History at Colorado State University. He grew up on a ranch in Carbondale, Colorado. He served in the air force and taught the history of the American West at CSU with an emphasis on water issues for more than thirty years. His book, Silver Fox of the Rockies, carefully describes the origin of interstate river compacts and the critical role they played in dividing the waters of the West. He is also the author of The Last Water Hole in the West and Love In An Envelope (forthcoming). His next work focuses on WD Farr.
