Alan Hamel is the Executive Director for the Board of Water Works of Pueblo, Colorado. He began his career in Colorado water in 1960 as a summer helper of the Board of Water Works and in 1962 became a pump station operator. He held various management positions for the Board of Water Works before his appointment to Executive Director in 1982. During the 1990s, Hamel was appointed by Governor Roy Romer as the Vice Chair of the Colorado Water Conservation Board and served on the Front Range Water Forum & Arkansas River Coordinating Committee. He serves as a current board/committee member for many organizations throughout the state including the Colorado Foundation for Water Education, the Southeastern Colorado Water Conservancy District, the Historic Arkansas Riverwalk of Pueblo Authority, the Statewide Water Supply Initiative, and the Interbasin Compact Committee.
