Fort Collins was constructed on the bluff of the Poudre River in 1864. Like most western military forts, Fort Collins incorporated building methods and site plans that were used frequently by the military and approved by the Federal government. These plans and building methods, as well as the Fort's river location, became the foundation for the early design and development of our unique town of Fort Collins. Today this same site is once again the focus of visionaries as they create a new center for Fort Collins heritage and culture. The program will discuss this architectural evolution from military fort to cultural center and feature historical photographs.
