About this Site

Design

The present site, released November 2004, features award-winning examples of undergraduate research conducted at Colorado State University and includes posters, photographic images, text, and a video presentation exhibited at the annual Celebrate Undergraduate Research and Creativity Showcase. It was designed and developed by various staff and students of the CSU Libraries with assistance from Dr. Nancy Levinger.

The graphic and navigation bar that appear on every page were created by Michelle Mach and Michelle Wilde. The graphic represents research in various disciplines and includes all the names of Colorado State University’s colleges.

Database

The digital projects in this collection are stored in CONTENTdm, a digital collection management database application developed by DiMeMa and marketed by OCLC. The database also contains metadata (descriptive, technical, and subject analysis information) about each of the objects. CONTENTdm allows searching from two different search interfaces (basic and advanced), as well as hot-linking of search terms within the catalog record.

Technical information on the presentation of the projects

Poster sessions were submitted as Microsoft PowerPoint single-slide slide shows. Each slide was resized (if necessary) to the standard PowerPoint On-Screen Show slide size (7.5 x 10 inches). The slide was converted to a PDF file using Adobe Acrobat 5.0 to create the access image displayed on the CURC web site. Thumbnail images were derived from the PowerPoint slides by saving them as JPEG files, then adjusting size and resolution in Adobe Photoshop.

Papers were submitted as PDF files, which were used without modification as the access object. Thumbnails were derived by saving a page of each paper as a JPEG file, then adjusting size and resolution in Adobe Photoshop.

The video was submitted as an Audio Video Interleaved (AVI) file. It was converted and compressed to a Windows Media Video (WMV) file for delivery over the Internet. A thumbnail image was captured using Windows Movie Maker and then resized using Adobe Photoshop.
