To collect and provide access to selected newspapers and their indexes which support the teaching, research, and general interest needs of the University. Selected papers provide intermediate reading material for foreign languages taught here; examples of editorial and journalistic excellence; and in depth regional, national and international news coverage in print and electronic formats.
Language: Primarily English, plus representative papers for Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Russian and Spanish.
Geographic: Emphasis on the United States, with representative international papers.
Chronological: Current newspapers are kept for a few weeks to a few months. Back runs of principal English language newspapers are available on microfilm. Back runs for foreign newspapers are available for long term loan through the Center of Research Libraries. Historic newspapers on microfilm are collected selectively to support specific faculty research and course requirements.
Collections are in both print and electronic formats. With Web access to most newspapers, as well as the availability of full text data bases, the hard copy newsprint collection is limited in size. We do not address the personal needs of students and faculty for newspapers from their home towns or countries, and do not attempt to cover the numerous political or religious views represented in our print collection, though most are available on the Web.
Please go to http://lib.colostate.edu/research/newspapers/ for a title/location list by state and country for the print collection, indexes for both print and electronic formats, and the microfilm collection. Hotlinks to current newspapers, news magazines, broadcast transcripts and wire service web sites throughout the world are also available via this site.
