To collect, manage and provide access to library materials to support the academic and research programs of the Department of Human Development and Family Studies. The department offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees through the M.S, and in collaboration with the Department of Psychology, offers a Ph.D in Lifespan Development. Curricular emphasis is on development of families and individuals across the lifespan. Courses are offered in three specialized career interest areas: childhood education, programming for children, youth and family and adult development and aging. At the Master's level, areas of emphasis include developmental processes, individual and family programming and marriage and family therapy. At the Ph.D level, areas of emphasis are in one or two of the lifespan segments (e.g., childhood, adolescence or aging.)

Chronological: Emphasis on current material. Some historical treatment as necessary.
Publication types and levels: Current publications from primarily university and scholarly presses. Some association and trade publications.
Monographs and serials in traditional or electronic format. U.S. Government documents received via the depository library program.
