The collection supports instruction and research for the Professional Veterinary Program in the Department of Clinical Sciences. Program emphasis includes large, small, and exotic animal ophthalmology, oncology, dermatology, orthopedics, radiology, reproduction, diagnostic imaging, and surgical treatment. Human medicine material is purchased to support significant research areas of the program.

Publications are primarily trade and research material purchased from university presses, societies, associations, and commercial science publishers. Textbooks are purchased on a highly selective basis. Audiovisual and computer-based material is purchased and housed at the Veterinary Medical Center Library.
Serials publications, monographs, national and state government documents, conference and symposium proceedings, and agriculture experimental station materials are collected. The delivery preference for databases and serial publications is Internet, institutionally licensed.
