Biology: Collection Development Policy

Purpose

The collection supports the curriculum and research of the Biology Department. Degrees include: Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences or Zoology; Masters and PhD in Botany or Zoology. Research emphasis in the department includes evolutionary biology, plant ecology, and physiology. This department also participates in three interdisciplinary academic programs: Graduate Degree Program in Ecology; Program in Cell and Molecular Biology; Program in Molecular, Cellular and Integrative Neuroscience.

This collection also supports other disciplines on campus including Biomedical Sciences, Fishery and Wildlife Biology, Animal Sciences, and Molecular Biology.

Scope of Coverage

Language:Strong emphasis on English language publications.

Chronological limits: Current research is the focus of this collection, classic works collected as appropriate.

Geographic areas:International with an emphasis on the United States and Colorado.

Publication types: Recent publications from university presses, scientific publishers and societies. Textbooks are collected on a highly selective basis.

Types of Materials

Strong emphasis on monographs and serials.

Conferences, symposia and proceedings are collected selectively.

Serials are acquired electronically where it is feasible to do so.

Microforms, videos and sound recordings are not collected.
