Biochemistry & Molecular Biology: Collection Development Policy

Purpose

This collection supports the curriculum and research in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. Degrees include: B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. in Biochemistry. Research emphasis includes the mechanisms of transcription regulation, chromatin structure and function, and the process of RNA replication. This department participates in the interdisciplinary Graduate Degree Program in Cell and Molecular Biology as well as the Program in Molecular, Cellular and Integrative Neurosciences.

This collection supports other disciplines on campus including Biology, Biomedical Sciences, and Microbiology, Immunology and Pathology.

Scope of Coverage

Language: Strong emphasis on English language publications.

Chronological limits:Current research is the focus of this collection.

Geographic areas: International with an emphasis on the United States.

Publication types: Recent publications from university presses, scientific publishers and societies. Textbooks are collected on a highly selective basis.

Types of Materials

Strong emphasis on monographs and serials.

Serials are acquired electronically where it is feasible to do so.

Conferences, symposia and proceedings are collected selectively.

Microforms, videos and sound recordings are not collected.
