To collect, manage, and provide access to library materials to support the academic and research programs of the Bioagricultural Sciences and Pest Management Department which offers courses leading to the master of science and doctor of philosophy degrees and undergraduate minors in entomology and plant health science. Curricular emphasis includes molecular biology, agricultural biotechnology, ecology and biodiversity, integrated pest management, entomology, plant pathology, and weed science. Research and curriculum highlights include bacterial pathogenesis, biotechnology, extension methods, insect behavior, insect ecology, forest and shade tree pathology molecular genetics, pest management, insect systematics, pesticide resistance management, week ecology, vector biology, bean diseases, perennial week management, week-crop interference, and integrated pest management (IPM).
Bioagricultural Sciences and Pest Management materials also support other departments in the College of Agricultural Sciences and additional areas including forestry, wildlife, fisheries, food safety, environmental resource management, horticulture, and landscape design. Library materials support the education and research conducted by Cooperative Extension.
Language: English is the primary language of the collection.
Geographic: Emphasis is on materials covering the United States with international publications collected selectively.
Chronological: Emphasis is on current research and developments.
Publication types and levels: Current publications primarily from university presses, key societies and associations, and trade publications from science and technology publishers. Most emphasis is on the collection of scholarly materials, with textbooks purchased on a highly selective basis.
Material collected consists primarily of serial publications and monographs, national and state government documents, conference and symposia proceedings, and plant and soil surveys. More journals are becoming available electronically. Full text and citation databases are playing an increasingly more important role in providing access to current research materials.
