Veterinary Resources of Interest to the General Public and Pet Owners


For questions concerning pets and their health:

NetVet (including Electronic Zoo). This site, sponsored by the AVMA, is useful for the large number of links it provides to sites of possible interest. Electronic Zoo, a subdivision of NetVet, includes a useful index by species.  Useful information and links on horses.

Waltham World of Pet Care. Covers a wide range of information about pets, from choosing a pet, to care and feeding, and common medical problems. Good source for information on exotics. There is also a good children's page.

Care For Pets.
Another site produced by the AVMA, this site is directed specifically at present or prospective pet owners.

Medline Plus. The National Institutes of Health maintain this site, which has a section on pets and pet health. Numerous useful links.

Consultant. Sponsored by Cornell University, this site is designed to provide diagnostic and clinical assistance to practicing veterinarians. Also of use to pet owners, if used with appropriate care.

PetEducation.  Small animal site, arranged by species.  Especially good on exotic species.

Healthypet.  Organized by the American Animal Hospital Association.  The "Pet Care Library" has extensive articles arranged by species--small animal only.  The "Veterinary Medicine FAQ" has articles on fees, pet insurance, and working with your veterinarian.

Pet Health Topics.  Produced by Washington State University; conveniently arranged by procedure and common problems.  Cats and dogs only.

Companion Animals.  Site of the Animal Welfare Center of the USDA.  Small animals only.

Pet Health.  Organized by the University of Tennessee Veterinary Library--helpful selection of links, arranged by species.

For Questions concerning Veterinary careers:
NetVet. Includes a section on Veterinary Career Resources, with numerous links and suggestions for further reading.

Veterinary Education. An AVMA site, contains information on Veterinary colleges worldwide.
