Fort Collins Reads--Community Event

Fort Collins Reads is having its main events for 2009 this upcoming weekend, November 7 & 8. T.C. Boyle, author of The Tortilla Curtain (and other books), will be in Fort Collins. See the Web page: Fort Collins Reads 2009: The Tortilla Curtain, created for the book, which has recommended resources and links to information about the book, as well as a link to the local organization's Web site. Films/Movies: New Web Page

The brand new Films/Movies Web page has information on finding feature film movies (also Shakespeare plays) in the CSU Libraries. There is also information on finding film scripts in the Libraries' print and online collections, identifying books on films ("motion pictures"), a list of reference and other books, indexes to find reviews and criticism, journals, and a number of really useful Web sites that have information and reviews of films, actors, directors, and more. The new page is linked to from both the English Language & Literature site and the Speeches Web page. Enjoy a good movie today!

New Russia and Soviet Union History Web Page

A brand new history Web page is now available: Russia and Soviet Union History 18th C-present. Find titles of useful books, terms to find additional books in the library catalog (and other library catalogs), recommended indexes and databases, journals, Web sites that cover the topic, and links to an online book collection as well as selected articles. Materials emphasize nation and empire aspects of Russia and Soviet Union history. Don't forget to evaluate whatever you find, be it a book, article, or Web page.

Recent New & Updated Web Pages

A new Web page, Rhetorics of Resistance and Change, is up. The page has definitions, a plug for the upcoming international poster exhibit (at CSU), books, recommended databases for identifying articles, and links to Web pages sorted by: Alternative Education; Prison Industrial Complex; NISP/Glade; Oakland Ebonics Debate; and Electronic Languages (IM, Texting, Twitter). It is linked off of the English Language & Literature site. Freshly updated with links to various groups in the Democratic Republic of Congo is the Art in Sub-Saharan Africa page. Find links that have photos with descriptions of the Azande, Kuba, Mangbetu, Pende, Songye, Suku, and Yaka. Art in Sub-Saharan Africa is linked off of the Art Resources site.

Topical Art Web Pages

There are currently five topical Web pages for Art. The pages provide titles of reference books (some books are electronic), terms to search in the library catalog, recommended indexes/databases to search for articles, and relevant Web pages found on sites around the world. If you or someone you know is doing research on one of these topics, these pages are the place to get started. The pages are: Art in 19th Century Europe; Art in Latin America; Art in Sub-Saharan Africa; Medieval Christian Saints in Art; and Pre-Columbian Art.

New History Web Pages

Two new Web pages were created for History this spring: Sport and American Society and Gender and Sexuality in the North American Borderlands, 1492-1850. Find recommended reference resources, suggestions of terms to search in library databases (including the library catalog), and find links to relevant material found on the free Web. There is a new Web page for History at the Libraries: Antarctica. Find recommended reference books, terms to search in the library catalog, journals, and Web pages. Web pages are arranged by: Bibliographies, Timelines, General, Antarctica Treaties & More, Maps, and Photographs. Even if you aren't doing research on Antarctica, you'll probably enjoy looking at the stunningly beautiful photographs!

How to Evaluate a Web Page has been translated into Spanish (Como Evaluar paginas Web?). It joins the Spanish versions of How to Evaluate a Book (Como evaluar libros) and How to Evaluate Journal Articles (Como evaluar articulos de periodicos). Espanol (Spanish) not your language? The pages are also available in francais (French)! Comment evaluer une page Web; Comment evaluer un livre; and Comment evaluer des articles de journaux.
