Advertising Age Supplements of possible interest

The following two publications were recently brought to my attention. These are particularly useful (and free) supplements from Advertising Age that contain advertising information that would be difficult to find elsewhere. For example, the Digial Marketing & Media Fact Pack contains consumer internet usage, blog user stats, search engine market share, mobile device user stats, and social networking demographics amongst other stats and info. The Search Marketing Fact Pack has info on topics such as "driving traffic to Wikipedia and YouTube" and search site statistics.

American Time Use Study - from BLS

I found this study quite by accident the other day and thought others may be interested in it. This study, produced by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, measures the amount of time people spend in various activities. The study has been produced yearly since 2003. I particularly like the charts, links to which are found by scrolling slightly down the page. For example, under the time use by full-time college students, you may or may not be interested in knowing that this group spends .8 of a hour per day grooming and 3.2 hours per day on eduational activities. Apart from just being interesting, this info may be of use to marketing students and researchers.

Market Segmentation - Library of Congress Guide

I've been getting large numbers of marketing questions in the past week or so. Here's a resource that might be helpful with market segmentation; Market Segmentation: A Guide to Sources of Information. The Library of Congress has compiled an extensive and useful listing of resources, both print and Internet, that focus on market segmentation. The guide is easy to use and is well organized. The introduction gives a good definition and explanation of market segementation. Sections are divided into generational, ethnicity, geographic, gender, gay/lesbian, and lifestyle and include books, articles, and Internet resources. Some of the books are available here at Morgan Library. If not, you can request them through Prospector, the regional catalog, or through inter-library loan.

    Market Share Reporter

If you are in need of market share information and don't know where to start, you might want to look at Market Share Reporter. This is a two volume reference book that is "an annual compilation of reported market share data on companies, products, and services." The entries are arranged by SIC categories, but the easiest way to find information is by using the indexes which include a company name index, brands index, and a products, services, names, and issues index. All entries also include source information. Market Share Reporter is located in the reference section of the library, behind the information desk. It's call number is HF5410 .M25 2007 Ref.
