Collaborating on a project - try Google Docs

Google Docs is a great way to collaborate with others on a team on a project, paper, presentation, etc. Team members can be in the document editing at the same time while located across town, across the country.... anywhere with an internet connection. Here's a bit more about it:

Open Access - new developments

Here is an interesting article from Inside Higher Ed on Open Access and steps that some universities are taking to facilitate the movement.
"Breakthrough on Open Access"
The article also provides some general information about Open Access and why the current publishing model of libraries paying high prices for journal subscriptions is unsustainable. If you'd like more information about Open Access, please see the SPARC website.

Have a good weekend!

Glassdoor.com - employer info

I discovered Glassdoor.com this summer. This website allows you to freely see salary and interview information as well as reviews from folks that work in those companies. This information is all confidential - the only caveat is that in order to view the information, you have to submit info about your employer. Read more info about it here:

http://www.glassdoor.com/about/overview.htm

FAQ's (including how to view info if you are a student and not employed)
http://www.glassdoor.com/about/faq.htm

This may be a worthwhile website to look at if you are considering working for a company, have an interview, or just want the inside scoop on what workers are making.

Business Week - Company Insight Center

I've just discovered Business Week's Company Insight Center. While much of the company information is typical of what's available on other finance sites such as Yahoo Finance and Google Finance, the "people" and in particular the board relationship info, is valuable - info that is usually difficult to locate elsewhere. And, private company information is also available. According to Business Week, information is available on over 42,000 public companies and 320,000 private companies in the U.S. and internationally. Check it out at:
