Statistics resources

About this time of year, I start getting numerous questions regarding the need for statistical information. If you don't know where to start and Google isn't turning up anything useful, try the following:

Statistical Sources Resource Guide
http://lib.colostate.edu/research/statsrc/
This is a good annotated list of places to start looking for statistics. Highlights: Nationmaster is great for international information; Larimer County Compass is excellent for local info; Statistical Sources on the Web from U of Michigan is a good clearinghouse of free online resources organized by category.

Google Government Search
http://www.google.com/ig/usgov
I"ve located hard-to-find government statistics using this specialized search through Google. It's worth a try to see what pops up. Results are limited to government sites.

Hopefully, that'll help you get started. If you are still not finding what you need, feel free to contact me at Louise.Feldmann@Colostate.edu

American Time Use Study - from BLS

I found this study quite by accident the other day and thought others may be interested in it. This study, produced by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, measures the amount of time people spend in various activities. The study has been produced yearly since 2003. I particularly like the charts, links to which are found by scrolling slightly down the page. For example, under the time use by full-time college students, you may or may not be interested in knowing that this group spends .8 of a hour per day grooming and 3.2 hours per day on eduational activities. Apart from just being interesting, this info may be of use to marketing students and researchers.

Wall Street Journal - now available electronically

CSU Libraries now has electronic access to Wall Street Journal (eastern edition) articles from 1989 to the present. Access is available in databases such as Business Source Premier and Academic Search Premier via the FindIt@CSU button. You can also browse the WSJ by entering the database directly (see below for the link). Access is also available via the journals search page. As with other Libraries electronic resources, you will need to have a library PIN set up in order to access from off-campus.
