Research Rocks-Tips & Tricks for Maximizing Natural Resources & Agricultural Library Research

Spring 2010 RESEARCH ROCKS SESSIONS are now scheduled! Sign up by email to reserve your space. All classes will cover the same material (key databases, impact factors, e-books, and more) so sign up for the class that fits your schedule. The one hour sessions are geared for graduate students or new researchers, but anyone is welcome to attend.

Colorado Forest Health Survey Results

Forest health, mountain pine beetle activity in Colorado and Wyoming, legislation in support of mountain pine beetle mitigation, and more now available. The USFS & the Colorado State Forest Service announce the results of the forest health survey January 22, 2010.

From the press release, "Survey results reveal that the bark beetle infestation affected about 524,000 new acres in 2009, bringing the total number of acres of infestation up to 3.6 million since the first signs of outbreak in 1996."

Environment Abstracts-New Database Available

Environment Abstracts is a new database now available from Cambridge Scientific Abstracts. The database includes journal articles on topics such as: renewable energy, green building design, sustainability, and more.

From the database description, "Environment Abstracts provides access to more than 950 journals published in the U.S. and abroad. The database also covers conference papers and proceedings, special reports from international agencies, non-governmental organizations, universities, associations and private corporations. Other materials selectively indexed include significant monographs, government studies and newsletters. "

The CSU Libraries provide access to hundreds of e-books from Springer. Springer eBooks just announced information for connecting the ebook content to your mobile device.

Survey on Open Access in Agriculture and Related Sciences

The FAO is hosting a short survey designed to get an overview of the state of Open Access (OA) and Open Archives Initiative (OAI) within agricultural research.

The survey is available in English, French and Spanish at http://www.ciardring.net/en/survey-oa

The survey will be open until the end of January 2010. The results will be made available online in the CIARD Ring http://www.ciardring.net/ to give all participants the opportunity to take a look at and comment the results.
