Lawrence I. Phelps Collection

Casavant organ at Colorado State University Concert Hall

Renowned organ builder Lawrence Phelps (1923-1999) is recognized for combining the historic art of organ building with modern mechanical design. Phelps designed and supervised the construction of more than 800 organs, including organs at Colorado State University and at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Fort Collins. Colorado State University recognized Phelps as an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters in 1993. The Lawrence I. Phelps Collection contains articles, speeches, correspondence, notes and audio and video materials. Colorado State University Libraries received the collection in 1999 from concert organist Dame Gillian Weir, Phelps's widow.
