The University Historic Photograph Collection (UHPC) was transferred to Archives and Special Collections in spring 2006 from the Office of Instructional Services (OIS), now known as Communications and Creative Services (CCS).
The 500,000 photographic images in the collection, dated ca. 1880 to 2001, document the history of Colorado State University, including
- Academic disciplines (agriculture, engineering, home economics, science and arts, veterinary medicine)
- Student activities, organizations, and athletics
- Scenes of the campus and its buildings
- The history of Cooperative Extension
- Early scenes of Fort Collins.
Hired in fall 2006 to process and arrange the UHPC, project archivist Kate Legg earned her Masters degree at CSU in History, with an emphasis on Archives and Museum Studies, and has worked at other archives in the area.
The UHPC is housed at the Archives Annex, a secured facility with constant temperature and humidity control. Archives staff are inventorying and preserving the collection, and arranging the items to aid researchers.
Digitization of this collection began in Fall of 2007, with the oldest materials first. These images will be put online in a searchable format.
To access the UHPC prior to digitization, or for more information, contact the Archives at 970-491-1844 or .
Also, over 350,000 images related to the University can be found on the CCS website.
