History

The Rocky Mountain Conference of Entomologists meets annually to hold informal discussions about their current research on insects, as it pertains to soil and crops. Two men who played prominent roles in creating the organization were Dr. C.P. Gillette, chairman during the first sixteen conferences, and George M. List, who served as secretary during the first twenty-seven conferences, until 1956. Attendance has grown from only twenty entomologists in 1923 to a peak attendance of 223 entomologists and family members in 1970. Except for the period during World War II from 1942 to 1946, conferences have been held nearly every year since 1923.
