History

The Colorado Cattle Feeders Association was established in 1955 to support cattlemen by gathering, analyzing, and distributing facts relative to the cattle feeding business. The Colorado Cattle Feeders Association's goals were to maintain the cattle industry on a sound economic footing through research, promotion and education. In 1998, the Association was restructured and became the Colorado Livestock Association (CLA).

Scope and Contents

The Records of the Colorado Cattle Feeders Association consists of documents dated 1955-1983, with the bulk falling from 1970-1980. The collection files include committee reports and rosters, board minutes, correspondence, news releases and newsletters. Newsletters, reports and other mailings from the American National Cattlemen's Association are included.

Arrangement

The collection was received in good order. Materials were grouped into series according to topic and further divided into subseries as needed.

The collection consists of nine series in seven boxes:

Acquisition

The Records of the Colorado Cattle Feeders Association was acquired by James E. Hansen for the Colorado Agricultural Records Project in July 1981 and received by the Libraries in February 2004.

Processing

Processing of the collection was completed in November 2005. Paper clips were removed and all materials were inserted in acid-free folders and reboxed.

Series Descriptions

Series I: Management--Board of Directors, district records, officers, 1970-1981 (0.5 linear feet)

This series consists of records from the Board of Directors as well as records of district elections and membership. Two files from association presidents are included as are some materials related to personnel issues. This series is divided into four subseries.

Subseries A: Board of Directors, 1973-1981

This subseries consists of board minutes, agendas and other mailings. The subseries is arranged alphabetically by topic, and then subdivided chronologically as needed.

Subseries B: District records, 1970-1980

This subseries consists primarily of information on district membership and elections. This subseries is arranged primarily alphabetically by topic.

Subseries C: Presidents, 1974-1976

This subseries consists of one file each from President Bill Webster and President Lloyd Kindsfater and is arranged by date.

Subseries D: Personnel, 1974, 1978

This subseries consists of information on hiring and retirement. This subseries is arranged alphabetically by topic.

This series consists of files from Association committees, reflecting their membership and their work, and is arranged with general committee files preceding specific committees, which are filed alphabetically by name.

Series III: Conventions, meetings, events, 1969-1980 (1.5 linear feet)

This series consists primarily of Association-sponsored conventions and meetings, but also includes some from other groups and associations. The series is divided into three subseries.

Subseries A: CCFA Meetings, 1970-1978

This subseries consists of conference announcements, as well as planning and program information. The subseries is arranged by type of meeting and then chronologically.

Subseries B: CCFA joint conventions, 1974-1975

This subseries consists of conference announcements, as well as planning and program information from the joint conferences held with the Colorado Cattlemen's Association. The subseries is arranged chronologically.

Subseries C: Other conferences, conventions, events, 1969-1980

This subseries consists of information from other conferences and events. The subseries is arranged alphabetically by topic.
