Donating to the Libraries

Our Libraries Gift Policy provides information regarding the policy for accepting gifts.  Any gifts given to the Libraries become State of Colorado property and are handled in accordance with the State of Colorado regulations.  Financial donations can be made through our Libraries' Development office.

When making a donation of in-kind items, we ask donors to complete a Disavowal Form.  This form provides us with needed information so that we may acknowledge the donor for their donation.

Complex donations or large donations (180+ items/6+ boxes) require coordination with one of our subject liaisons.  Sometimes they are able to make a decision based on the information forwarded to them.  Other times, they may contact the donor directly to gain more information for assessing the donation.  For large donations, the subject liaison will review the collection, before acceptance, and complete a big gift form.  This form is part of our internal processing to provide advance notice to the departments that will work with the donation.  Depending on the nature of the donation, the review process and completion of the big gift form could delay acceptance of a donation up to two weeks.

Colorado State University Libraries uses Criteria for Automatic Adds and Discards when screening a donation.  As donor, you can expedite the review process by previously weeding out items that we would consider an "automatic discard".

Tax Information for Donors:  Donors with questions regarding the tax implication of their gift should contact their attorney or tax advisor.  The University Foundation office handles processing of the authorized "Donee" signatures for IRS form 8283.  Donors should allow for additional time for the completion of this form.

The Gifts and Exchange office is located in room 28, Morgan Library, in the basement.  When making a donation, we ask that you contact our office in advance to coordinate your donation.  Please contact:

Not all donations are able to be accepted.  If we decline your donation, we will try to provide alternative discard sources as appropriate based on the type of material in the donation and the location.
