Laptop Troubleshooting Guide


PROBLEM POSSIBLE SOLUTION
"Illegal operation error" or laptop freezes Restart the laptop.
"Unable to connect to the wireless network" Move to a different location (See Broadcast Map).
Laptop is "Logged Off" Press Ctrl + Alt+ Delete and click OK (you do not need a password to log on).
"USB device not recognized" Unplug and replug the device. If this doesn't work, try another USB port.
VPN startup requests a group name or password (may appear in white-on-black DOS window) Bring Laptop to the Loan and Reserve Desk.
Laptop is plugged in and a "Low Battery Power" message appears Plug in the laptop to a different electrical outlet.
"Attempt to write to a protected disk" CD may be finalized and cannot accept more data. If this is not the case, restart the laptop and try the program again.
"Windows did not start/close properly on the previous attempt" A white-on-black DOS window will ask the user to select a mode in which to open Windows. Select Normal mode.

If the suggested solutions are not successful please bring the laptop to the Loan & Reserve Desk immediately and report the problem(s). Another laptop may be checked out if available.
