Spotlight on FIVE Inspirational Librarians & Library Staff!

Beth Oehlerts Welcome to the World

"I have always believed being a librarian is the best job in the world. In what other profession can you provide materials and information that will feed the imagination, inform, educate, and inspire? I feel fortunate to be able to play a role in meeting the cultural, educational, recreational, and civic needs of my community. It's a profession that gives people access to the world."

-Beth Oehlerts, Metadata & Preservation

Louise Feldmann I Like A Job with a Large Stereotype Attached

“I was a flight attendant for over a decade, so I can say that.  The best part of  being a librarian is helping students and faculty find the information they need.  There’s a bit of a treasure hunt aspect to being a reference librarian as well; looking everywhere for that one bit of info that someone needs…that can be quite fun (and I mean that in a non-geeky way).  Libraries are just fabulous places to find information and to get help finding it; and it doesn’t cost extra for the professional help.”

- Louise Feldmann, College Liaison Librarian, College of Business

Merinda McLureIn Every Library Something For Everyone

"I came to be a librarian more by accident and good fortune than design. A librarian friend drew me over through a few wise points I now know to be true. 1. Librarianship suits a dabbler. The passion, knowledge, and spark of specialists, past and present, is always at hand. I'm lucky to be able to touch it and learn from it daily, from the sidelines. 2. People. I have the good fortune to share in a little of their curiosity, wit, life experiences, wisdom, and learning every day. Lucky me. 3. Possibility. By facilitating better access to information, libraries support and sustain the potential in all our lives: better health, fantastic adventures, vibrant communities, scientific innovation."
- Merinda McLure, College Liaison Librarian, Applied Human Sciences

Sari KeilmanMeeting the Needs of A Variety of People

"As a kid who spent hours with her nose in a book, working in a library seems as natural to me as breathing. What makes the experience even more meaningful is Colorado State University's status as a land grant institution. The patron base encompasses everyone from the PhD student, to freshmen tentatively pursuing their first paper for their beginning English composition class, to the cub scouts having a WOW tour of the library. Meeting the needs of this variety of people is challenging and fun - a fantastic combination!"

- Sari Keilman, Library Instruction

Shu LiuDiscover the World & Yourself

"I choose to work in a library because the library is a place where you can go through time and location to discover the world and most importantly, yourself."

- Shu Liu, Digital Repositories
