General Syntax is an attempt by Accidental Vestments, the collaborative arts group at Colorado State University, to explore the syntax of contemporary experience. Our means are various: limits, constraints, repetitions, procedures, fragmentations, recontextualizations, fusions and confusions. On the cusp of this election season we cannot help but pay attention to what our leaders say and how they say it. Can we trust them? Are expressions of “change” a syntactical force or is it more empty rhetoric? And how do euphemisms like “greening the earth” actually enter society, if at all, as a new world order? The objects of General Syntax register the relative faiths and doubts we have about language, and the ways making art helps clarify the welter of contemporary experience.
Accidental Vestments is an extracurricular collaboration developed between the MFA Program in Creative Writing and the MFA Program in Studio Art at CSU.
The exhibit is free and open to the public. Please stop by.
