Artist’s Statement
Portrait by John Kutzik“I often find inspiration from literature. I do not, however, dismiss everyday events or dreams as other sources of my work. Often both of these sources are combined in the compositions. My vocation as a teacher has recently been the source of ideas and drawings.

I consider my work to be fanciful and symbolic. I was trained primarily as a non-representational artist (abstract expressionism) and still believe in the communicative values of such arrangements and temperament. Realism has affected my vision as well, but representation or abstraction for me must be altered just enough to contain my idea of both combined with my subject.”

John Kutzik received his B.A. and M.F.A. from the University of Minnesota. Professor Kutzik taught foundations painting and foundations sculpture. He is a painter and a draftsman. He currently is working on a series of large acrylics and watercolors based upon fanciful, figurative studies. Professor Kutzik has exhibited in many regional and national shows.

The exhibit is currently on display in the First National Bank Gallery, 1st floor, Morgan Library.
