GOAL 1:  INFORMATION DISCOVERY AND DELIVERY SERVICES

The CSU Libraries is an organization that constantly improves the information discovery/delivery services and tools it provides for faculty, students, and staff.

STRATEGY 1.1:  Improve discovery tools and search systems

Key Events for Implementation:

  1. Evaluate meta-search service options (i.e. reduce search silos) and make a recommendation to LPG.
  2. Evaluate faceted search result display options and make a recommendation to Libraries Planning Group
  3. Evaluate options to include user supplied metadata (i.e. tags, recommendations, reviews) in information discovery service and search result displays. Make recommendations to Libraries Planning Group.
  4. Reduce the number of separate log-in required by library users (e.g. Sage, ILL, Ereserve, individual research databases, etc.).
  5. Improve the Libraries Web pages in accordance with usability research and local testing.
  6. Evaluate the use of server virtualization or equivalent technology to create scalable server support infrastructure.

  1. Recommendation on meta-search services. (Deadline June 30, 2008)
  2. Recommendation on faceted search results. (Deadline June 30, 2008)
  3. Recommendation on user-supplied metadata. (Deadline June 30, 2008)
  4. Reduction in patron log-ins. (Deadline June 30, 2008)
  5. Updated Libraries Web pages. (Deadline June 30, 2008)
  6. Create a recommendation and potential project plan for scalable server support infrastructure. (Deadline June 30, 2008)

STRATEGY 1.2:  Grow the RAPID consortium and expand desktop delivery of information.

Key Events for Implementation:

  1. Add participants to RAPID.
  2. Add functionality to RAPID.
  3. Promote open access.
  4. Facilitate discovery of open access journals.

  1. Sign 25 new RAPID contracts. (Deadline June 30, 2008)
  2. Develop new functionality in RAPID. (Deadline June 30, 2008)
  3. Host open access presentations on campus. (Deadline May 9, 2008)
